Let the Village In
They say it takes a village to raise a child.
Still coming down from the overwhelming amount of love that showered us at our baby shower this past week. The whole experience forced me to expand my capacity to receive, and I have to say, it’s really powerful when you allow others to do things for you just because you’re you.
Early on in our pregnancy Brandon told me his manager wanted to host a shower for us. I thought it was nothing more than a sweet sentiment. Fast-forward to months later and all we had to do beyond inviting some friends was show up.
Ask Brandon and those closest to me - I have a default way of stepping in and helping others, and often struggle with allowing others to take care of me without me doing something for them in return. Nothing like being pregnant to force you to work on your receiving-without-conditions muscle.
I can’t highlight enough how amazing the Founding Farmers family is. They hosted and organized this entire event for us. From the level of service to the impromptu game of Guess the Baby Food Flavor and every little detail in between, we felt their love in every single moment. It’s important to point out that they did this at a time when restaurants are still recovering from the impact of the pandemic. THAT’S how big their hearts are, and our hearts are so full as a result.
If you’re in the DC Metro, please pay a visit to this very special restaurant.
And if you’re quick to jump in and help others, I encourage you to lean back and let others love you solely because you’re you.
They say it takes a village to raise a child…but only if you let the village in.
